😡 Trump’s first White House petition just officially launched
While the Trump team has erased climate change, LGBT rights reports, and other issues that evidently will be a low priority in the new administration from .gov websites, it has so far kept the “We the People” portion of whitehouse.gov. All petitions under Obama’s tenure have been erased, and so far the only new petition to have been filed is yet another demand for Donald Trump to release his tax returns.
The “We the People” site was created by the Obama administration, and permits citizens to start online petitions. If a petition clears 100,000 signatures, the White House responds to it directly, according to former policy on the matter.
The petition is titled “Immediately release Donald Trump’s full tax returns, with all information needed to verify emoluments clause compliance.” As of this writing, it has cleared 2,762 signatures in less than three hours after Trump was inaugurated.
According to the petition:
“The unprecedented economic conflicts of this administration need to be visible to the American people, including any pertinent documentation which can reveal the foreign influences and financial interests which may put Donald Trump in conflict with the emoluments clause of the Constitution.”
Trump is the first U.S. President to fail to release a tax reform in several decades. A movement to impeach him over potential financial conflicts of interest has already begun.
